About The Course

Learn NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) online via MySign!

Join our interactive 8-week course led by a qualified teacher! Perfect for students with approx. 8 hours of prior NZSL tuition.

Course Outline:

  • Level/units: NZSL Beginner - Part 2 (Level 1, Units 3 and 4)
  • Duration: Every Thursday for 8 weeks: August 15th-postponed, 29th; September 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, October 3rd, 10th and 17th
  • Course fee: $140 incl. electronic weekly handouts/homework
  • Teacher: Tania Purdon

What You'll Learn:

Unit 3 - Needs and Wants

  • Name common food and drink items
  • Make and respond to requests and offers for basic wants and needs
  • Ask and tell locations of familiar objects and locations in the immediate environment
  • Express likes and dislikes
  • Understand basic signs for emergency exit procedures

Unit 4 - Family and Friends

  • Tell about immediate family/whānau and relationships (e.g. friends, colleagues)
  • Give and ask personal information about self and others such as where one lives and their pets
  • Use numbers for counting, age and ranking

Important Notes:

  • Registering online secures your spot in the course. A minimum number of students is required; if not met, the course may be postponed or cancelled.
  • Please review our cancellation policy.
  • After registration, you'll receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link for the course. Check your spam folder if you don't see it.
  • All you need is a computer/laptop with webcam and internet connection. Please note that tablets, chromebook and mobiles are not recommended.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be issued upon meeting 80% attendance (6 out of 8 classes).
  • Funding from Employers: Consider approaching your employer for professional development funding. If your organisation is covering the course fee, please email us with their Reference/Purchase Order number (mysign@mergenz.co.nz).
