Learn New Zealand Sign Language in this 6-week evening course through blended learning. This is NZSL Intermediate (Level 2a) course, suitable for those students who has completed one year of NZSL course. This is a funded course for the students who have attended the recent immersion camp at Nelson.

About The Course

Join and learn New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) course in Nelson!

NZSL is a beautiful language, and an official language of NZ. This is a NZSL Intermediate 2a course - suitable for students who have completed Level 1 (full year) course in the past. The course will be delivered through blended learning. In this arrangement, you will attend onsite classes with other participants, and the tutor will teach virtually with an onsite facilitator to support your learning. Certificate of Attendance and will be issued at the end of the course*.

Days: Monday, 5.30pm to 7.00pm

Dates: 17/7, 24/7, 31/7, 7/8, 14/8 and 21/8 (6 weeks)

Level: NZSL Intermediate 2a (Unit 10 & 11)

Cost: FREE

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this 2a course, learners will learn :

Unit 10 - Exchanging data

  • give, ask and summarise personal information about self and others
  • narrate about life events and their language learning journey
  • describe and identify people in order to share information about them
  • tell about extended family/whānau and basic facts of family history

Unit 11 - Home Life

  • describe activities, food and environment-related topics in the home
  • discuss responsibilities and schedules for domestic chores and errands
  • make and respond to requests and complaints related to home life
  • recount personal experiences about mishaps and problems in the home
