Join our interactive 3-week crash course tailored for emergency services. This course equips you with emergency-related signs for effective communication with Deaf survivors and community members. Starting Thursday, 23rd November from 8.00pm - 9.00pm.

Dates: 23/11, 30/11 and 7/12

Time:  8.00pm - 9.00pm

Fee: $49 for the full 3-week course, including weekly e-handouts and homework.

Course Outline for Emergency Services

Class One - Personal Information

• Greetings and introductions
• Family inquiries
• Seeking clarification, correction and confirmation
• Emergency service professions
• Numbers 1 - 10

Class Two - Emergency Situations

• Describing common emergency scenarios
• Naming emergency supplies
• Discussing wellbeing
• Understanding the Deaf 111 Text emergency service
• Exploring Deaf culture and effective ways to gain attention

Class Three - Safety

• Giving and receiving simple directions
• Telling time in NZSL
• Counting up to 20
• Discussing safety equipment and measures
• Highlighting the significance of facial expressions in emergency situations.

lmportant Information:

• To participate, you'll need a computer/laptop with a camera and an internet connection. Tablets or mobile phones are not recommended.
• Minimum enrollment of 4 students is required for the course to proceed.
