Learn NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) online via MySign!

Join our interactive 3-week crash course tailored for emergency services. This course equips you with emergency-related signs for effective communication with Deaf survivors and community members. Classes start on Wednesday, 17th April from 7.45pm - 8.45pm.

Dates: 17/4, 24/4 and 1/5

Time:  7.45pm - 8.45pm

Fee: $60 for the full 3-week course, including weekly e-handouts and homework.

Course Outline for Emergency Services

Class One - Personal Information

• Greetings and introductions
• Family inquiries
• Seeking clarification, correction and confirmation
• Emergency service professions
• Numbers 1 - 10

Class Two - Emergency Situations

• Describing common emergency scenarios
• Naming emergency supplies
• Discussing wellbeing
• Understanding the Deaf 111 Text emergency service
• Exploring Deaf culture and effective ways to gain attention

Class Three - Safety

• Giving and receiving simple directions
• Telling time in NZSL
• Counting up to 20
• Discussing safety equipment and measures
• Highlighting the significance of facial expressions in emergency situations.

Important Notes:

• Registering online secures  your spot in the course. Please review our cancellation policy.
• A minimum number of students are required; if not met, the course may be postponed or cancelled.
• All you need is a computer/laptop with a webcam and an internet connection. Tablets and mobile devices are not suitable for online learning.
• After registration, you'll receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link for the course. Check your spam folder if you don't see it.
