NZSL for Teachers Online - Part 1

Learn NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) online via MySign!

Embark on a 3-week interactive crash course designed specifically for teachers. Discover the beauty of NZSL as one of three official languages while mastering school-related signs. Starting on Thursday, July 6th, this course is ideal for beginner-level learners.

Experience the convenience of online learning with a qualified NZSL tutor leading each class. All you need is a computer or laptop with a webcam and a reliable internet connection; tablets and mobile phones are not recommended for optimal learning.

Dates: July 6th, 13th, and 20th

Time: 6.00pm - 7.00pm

Fee: The cost is $49 for the full 3-week course, including weekly e-handouts.

Course Outline for Teachers #1

Class One - Introductions

• Exchange greetings and introductions
• Respond to action commands
• Seek clarification, repetition, correction and confirmation
• Learn numbers 1 - 10
• Gain insights into Deaf culture, including attention-getting techniques.

Class Two - Activities

• Discuss daily activities and time
• Share opinions on activities and routines
• Inquire about family
• Explore Deaf culture through handwaves (applause in NZSL)

Class Three - The Classroom

• Identify people in the classroom
• Name objects in the classroom
• Discuss school subjects
• Learn counting up to 20
• Understand the importance of booking NZSL interpreters
