About The Course
Learn NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) Online with MySign!
Join our immersive online NZSL course via MySign and experience interactive learning with a certified NZSL teacher! This course is perfect for students who have completed the Beginner (Part 3) online course approximately 24 hours or have finished Beginners 1b/1c onsite.
Course Outline:
- Level/units: NZSL Beginner - Part 4 (Level 1, Units 7 & 8)
- Duration: Every Wednesday for 8 weeks: August 14th-postponed, 21st, 28th; September 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, October 2nd and 9th.
- Course fee: $140 incl. electronic handouts/homework
- Teacher: Janine Campbell
What You'll Learn:
Unit 7 - Community and Work
- Communicate about essential services and locations in their community (e.g. doctor, bank, library)
- Describe occupations, tasks & transport in relation to work & community activities
- Negotiate appointments and bookings
- Discuss prices on use of services and purchases, and ways of payment
- Wrap up activities, review, final activity and/or event
Unit 8 - My Place
- Invite others, accept and decline invitations to their home
- Give and ask for addresses and contact details (e.g. email, mobile number)
- Describe identifying features of their home (e.g. two storey, brick, white fence)
- Understand and give simple directions to their homes
- Identify rooms in a house
- Name essential household items relevant for visitors (e.g. meals, toilet paper)

- A minimum number of students is required; if not met, the course may be postponed or cancelled.

- All you need is a computer/laptop with a webcam and an internet connection. Please note that tablets and mobile devices are not suitable for online learning.
- After registration, you'll receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link for the course. Check your spam folder if you don't see it.
- Upon meeting 80% attendance (6 out of 8 classes), a Certificate of Attendance will be issued.
- Funding from Employers: Consider approaching your employer for professional development funding. If your organisation covers the course fee, please email us their Reference/Purchase Order number (mysign@mergenz.co.nz).
