NZSL for Health Online - Part 1

Learn NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) online via MySign!

Join our interactive 3-week crash course designed for health professionals. You'll acquire health-related signs to enhance communication with Deaf patients and clients. Starting Tuesday, 21st November from 6.15pm - 7.15pm. This is suitable for students who have no previous knowledge of NZSL.

Dates: 21/11, 28/11 and 5/12

Time: 6.15pm - 7.15pm (1 hour x 3 sessions)

Fee: $49 for the full 3-week course, including weekly e-handouts and homework.

Course Outline for Health Professionals #1

Class One - Initial Consultation

• Greetings and introductions
• Family health history
• Body parts
• Social, obstetric and surgical history
• Current medication
• Numbers 1 - 10

Class Two - Body & Physical Examination

• Inquire about current issues and symptoms
• Ask for clarification, correction, and confirmation
• Body functions
• Deaf culture and working with NZSL interpreters

Class Three - Medication and Treatment

• Instructions and action commands
• Telling time in NZSL
• Counting up to 20
• Simple medications and tests
• Health professions
• Deaf culture and medical views on Deaf people

Important Information:

• A computer/laptop with a camera and an internet connection is required for online learning. Tablets or mobile phones are not recommended.
• The course is subject to a minimum enrollment of 4 students to proceed.
